Our CVLCC community has a legacy of commemorating “Peace One Day” the International Day of Peace. We were inspired by the work of Jeremy Gilley in calling for a global day of peace, of cease-fire and non-violence. Our former administrator, Christyn Pope, was instrumental in promoting our participation in this important day through different partnerships and activities. We’ve marched, danced, played soccer, held poetry slams, hosted local athletes, engaged in dialogue with local leaders and more through our Peace One Day celebrations. We’ve challenged ourselves to have open and honest conversations with our students about real obstacles to peace and supported them in generating creative ideas about how to address those. While it is easy to say “Yeah, peace!”- it is challenging to truly look within ourselves, our own communities, our country and our world and honestly ask what we can do to work for a society with a more genuine, sustainable and equitable sense of peace for ALL. This year our teachers engaged students through activities focused on the theme of "Protection of People, Planet and Wildlife".
